Abstract submission > Submission instruction

ALL 3rd-year Ph.D. candidates are REQUIRED to give a short talk AND to present a poster.

ABSTRACT

It has to be short (< 300 words) and in English.

The abstract should explain the context and objectives of your thesis.

If needed, you are allowed to upload one single picture. (by using File(s) uploader in the My submission tab)

Specify what format your presentation will follow: 5 mins or "Ma These en 180s"

ORAL PRESENTATION (2 options)

The talks will last for 5 (five) minutes only, i.e. 300 seconds sharp. Please try to respect the time as best as you can (no more / no less).

The presentation slides and your speech have to be in English.

The document should be in PDF (to be send by email to ed397.representatives@gmail.com)

5 minute presentation

You must make your talk easy to understand: not a pile of data, not a list of equations, not 6 slides badly explained.
The non-expert audience should grasp the CONTEXT and the OBJECTIVES of your work, and most importantly WHY you are doing this work.

It is strongly recommended to follow this format :

- 1 slide for the introduction

- 1 slide for the problem

- 1 slide how to answer this question (experience/simulation/...)

- 1 slide with 1 result

- 1 slide conclusion/invitation to come to see the poster...

Please don't present many results, the main goal here is to awaken people's curiosity and not to knock them out with data!

For a general guideline, please check out the winning presentations from last year on the Awarded works (login required) tab.
Our message here is that your talk should be interesting, enjoyable and attractive: the purpose is to make the audience come and see your poster.

Three mintue thesis

  • A single static PowerPoint slide is permitted (No slide transitions, animations or movement) and is to be presented from the beginning of the oration
  • Presentation is mainly context and not necessarily containing a result
